What is colon cancers survival rate? Many patients want to know their colon cancer prognosis. They may inquire the medical team addressing the specific case or search for statistics on their own. A prognosis gives an idea of the likely course and outcome of a disease. It also identifies the chance that a patient will recover or experience return of the cancer.

What is stage IV cancer of the colons survival rate? Stage 4 colon cancer refers to cancer that spread to nearby lymph nodes and other parts of the body, such as the liver or lungs. Another name for stage 4 colon cancer is Dukes’ D colon cancer. Generally, approximately 8-15% of people with stage 4 colon cancer are still alive five years after their diagnosis.

Darlene Kipling worked as a RN at CTCA giving chemotherapy and looking after patients. She never thought that one day she might be one of the patients to deal with the disease. In December 1993, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. The next year she had bowel resections. In 1996, a routine mammogram displayed a suspicious mass on the film which turned out to be malignant. She was once again treated. She is now many years out from colon and breast cancer. She is perfectly well and works full time as care manager.

Linda Fairchilds father died of colon cancer a month before she was diagnosed with the disease in 1995. She had surgery and chemotherapy. The first round of chemotherapy never made her lose her hair or have any severe side effects, although she did have some nausea.

Three years later blood tests came back abnormal signaling the return of the cancer. By the end of her second series of treatments, the tumor was no longer visible on scans and her blood tests were near normal. She continued to receive nutrition intravenously for the next three months, until her weight returned to normal.

If you have a family history or colorectal cancer, or if you exercise little and have a high fat/low fiber diet, then you want to be aware of the symptoms of colon cancer.

by Tim Sanders

If you have a family history or colorectal cancer, or if you exercise little and have a high fat/low fiber diet, then you want to be aware of the symptoms of colon cancer.

Symptoms of colon cancer may include: general abdominal discomfort, blood in the stool (bright red, or dark), constipation, diarrhea, narrower stools than usual, tiredness and vomiting, weight loss for no apparent reason.

As with all cancer, early detection is vital. Means of detection include: digital rectal exams (recommended annually after 40) and fecal occult blood loss (stool sample testing over 50).

Traditional treatments for colorectal cancer include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Today, there are alternative cancer treatments, which can be used with or without the use of conventional cancer treatment methods, to support your cancer battle.

It goes without saying that you need to thoroughly research any alternative treatment, and to consult with your doctor, to ensure the remedy is safe for you in your health condition. Many alternative treatments are not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, so the safest is to assume it is not an option for you, (unless you can find reliable medical literature that suggests otherwise).

1: Cut down on your Sugar Intake and increase your Oxygen Intake Cancer cells love sugar and hate oxygen. This means you want your blood sugar down to the low normal range and your blood oxygen levels at the high 99-100% range.

2: You need a Strong Immune System to act as a 1st Line of Defense This means sunshine, fresh air, clean water and outdoor exercise.

3: Go on a Macrobiotic Diet. This diet gradually eliminates meat, dairy foods, eggs and sugar. Meals are made up of whole grains (such as brown rice and millet), vegetables (baked, boiled, or steamed), and fruits. There is a major emphasis on raw, and freshly squeezed quality raw juices. You may need to supplement with calcium, magnesium, B12 and iron.

4: Drink Green Tea

Green tea, has been used for medicinal purposes in parts of Asia for centuries. It contains polyphenols with potent antioxidant properties. Some studies show that drinking green tea helps inhibit tumor growth.

5: Take Paw Paw

Paw Paw, which comes from a fruit typically grown in the eastern US, contains acetogenins. Some researchers believe Paw Paw can help fight cancer and its symptoms. Do not take at the same time you take CoEnzymeQ10 or any other supplement that raises ATP levels. Similarly do not take if you are on prescription medications, without consulting your doctor about interactions.

Eating healthy, and getting exercise outdoors are contributors to a general well-being and healing. Dietary and lifestyle changes recommended in alternative cancer treatment are often recommended for individuals seeking to optimize their heath.

Colon Cancer: Its Symptoms And Its Different Stages

Colon cancer is just one of the different types of cancer that is currently in existence. It affects the basic unit of the body, which is the cell. But what is colon cancer? How does it come into existence?

Colorectal cancer is something that is greatly feared since it is the third most common cancer in both men and women in the United States according to the American Cancer Society. It is also fairly common since according to the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, it affects about seven (7) percent of Americans.

Cancer is the state wherein the cell becomes abnormal and divides in a rapid manner without any control. When this happens, masses of tissues form. These tissue masses can either be benign or malignant and these are what we call tumors. Only malignant tumors can be considered as cancerous tumors at first diagnosis, but benign ones which are not cancerous can eventually become cancerous in time if they are not removed. The colon, on the other hand, is about six (6) feet in length and is responsible for absorbing nutrients, water, and electrolytes from the foods that we ingest, transporting them to the different systems of the body through the blood. When the normal process of this is disrupted, it can be deemed as one of the colon cancer signs.

The different signs of colon cancer also include a change in the normal bowel movement habits, constipation, diarrhea, blood in the stool which can either be bright red or very dark, a feeling that the bowel movement isn’t complete, narrower than usual fecal matter, frequent gas pains, cramps, bloating, vomiting, weight loss due to unknown reasons, and constant tiredness. These colon cancer signs can also be associated to colon disorders.

Rectal bleeding is the most common among the colon cancer early symptoms. Once you show signs of bleeding, you should immediately consult your doctor. This is because the bleeding is also usually association with hemorrhoids and, of course, it is always better to get yourself checked.

Colon cancer is diagnosed at different colon cancer stages. Stage 0 colon cancer is the phase wherein the cancer is detected really early and is found only in the linings of the colon. Stage 1 colon cancer is the phase wherein the cancer is already in the inner wall of the colon. Stage 2 colon cancer is the phase wherein the cancer which started in the colon has already spread to nearby organ tissues but not the lymph nodes yet. Stage 3 colon cancer is the phase wherein the cancer has already spread to nearby lymph nodes. Stage 4 colon cancer is the phase wherein the cancer has already spread to various parts of the body, commonly to the lungs and the liver.

Generally speaking, the earlier the colon cancer is diagnosed, the higher the chance that it can get cured. According to an article published in the European Journal of Cancer, the location of the tumor has an impact on the colon cancer survival rate. In the U.S., the survival rate of cancer which originates from the transverse colon is 59 percent; 63 percent from the ascending colon, and 66 percent from the descending colon.
