Eating is part of your daily routine, but if you are faced with the question: Why do you eat? What would be your answer? People eat to survive and to provide for nutritional needs, especially for energy and growth. The absorption of these so-called nutrition falls under the role of the Digestive System, without which you might not get the nutrients’ that you need to grow and stay healthy.
This is why there is a need to take care of the digestive system and its parts, including the Colon – that which is responsible for absorbing the water, potassium and some fat soluble vitamins from solid wastes, in the last stage of the digestive process before they are expelled from the body. But just because the role it plays is not major doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be taken care of. As a matter of fact, disorders of the colon such as having a Perforated Colon, or Perforated Colon Cancer need immediate medical attention.
A perforation is a hole created by boring or piercing, and yes, as scary as it sounds, this actually occurs in the gastrointestinal tract including the Colon.  And how do you know if you have this? Found below are symptoms of a perforated colon:
1. Abdominal Pain. If you feel intense pain in your abdominal area that keeps recurring, or intensifies with movement, then it could very well be due to a perforated colon.
2. Bleeding.  Bowel accompanied by blood may also signify a perforation of the colon, and it is necessary to bring it to the attention of a medical expert immediately.
3. Nausea. This is the sensation of discomfort, and unease in your gastrointestinal tract, giving you the urge to throw up, or vomit. In cases of perforated colon cancer, the nausea felt is in its extreme.
4. Fever, Chills & Cramps. These are considered as later symptoms in the disorder. A perforated colon causes a change in body temperature, and in the muscular activity of the abdominal region.
5. Other symptoms. Perforation of colon may also manifest through other symptoms such as loss of appetite and vomiting.
Because it plays a major role in maintaining the hydration status of the body, a hole, or a perforation in the colon wall warrants immediate medical emergency. It might take more than just eating to tame that burning pain, and woozy feeling in your gastrointestinal area. Seek the help or advice of a doctor, and let me know if he tells you that eating isn’t the only way to respond to a grumbling tummy.
