Colon Cleansing Diet: For Longer Life
The colon is, at times, not really being paid that much attention to. It is just seen as a means to be able to eliminate waste. That’s it. This same reason should be reason enough to regard it as a very important part of the body that needs to be maintained to be able to function to its optimum level without any problem, otherwise, our body will be poisoned by the toxins that are supposed to be eliminated by our body but, for some reason, since the colon is not functioning properly, are not eliminated at all.
A lot of you would agree that death begins in the colon. Why? According to the Vegetarian Times in their publication last March, 1998, “Death begins in the colon. Don’t believe it? Ask any coroner. Autopsies often reveal colons that are plugged up to eighty (80) percent with waste material.” This fact alone makes it necessary for anyone to be on a colon cleansing diet periodically to ensure a healthy digestive system.
What can a colon cleanse diet do? Generally speaking, colon cleansing is a process wherein the digestive system is being cleansed from all toxins. It involves introducing small amounts of water into the large intestine to enable the washing away of toxins and other waste matter more efficient. A colon diet would usually involve more than the usual amount of water we normally ingest. If we need to take about 8 glasses of water daily, when you are on a colon cleanser diet, you would need to drink at least 10 glasses of water a day to ensure that you do not get dehydrated.
Being able to preserve colon health is imperative. Period. Having a contaminated colon will adversely affect the body’s ability to dispose of the toxins that can lead to other medical conditions, like diarrhea, constipation, skin problems, digestive disorders, fatigue, and worse, the life-threatening disease colon cancer, which is said to be the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States.
A normal colon health diet normally includes foods high in fiber. Fiber cannot be digested by the human body, hence, they act as sweepers of the digestive tract. They can, therefore, correct disorders related to the colon and maintain its healthy functioning. It is imperative that a balanced diet, though, is going to be followed. Do not take too much fiber since it can interfere with the absorption of copper, calcium, selenium, zinc, and magnesium. Taking in high-fiber diets along with a balanced food selection is the best combination for a colon detox diet.
Without the colon, the process of digestion will not be complete. Take good care of it. Your life depends on it.

Berries and chocolate. Generally a great combination, right? What if there was a berry that had a cocoa flavor in it? Well as nature would have it, there is. This extraordinarily nutritious berry is called the acai berry (pronounced a-sigh-ee). While it doesn’t exactly taste like pure chocolate, the bitterness of cacao is incorporated into acais intense flavor. The flavor is actually hard to pinpoint as some of its juices have been compared to bitter raspberries while others claim acai produces a salty aftertaste (like say, olives.) Ok, I’m the one that said that. But the flavor is not the only thing that makes acai so unique.
Quercetin is a plant-derived flavonoid that is abundant in the acai berry. Quercetin is believed to be partially responsible for the reduction in cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases. While at this time there is no reliable clinical evidence on this nutrient and supplements of it specifically, it has been found that diets high in fruits and vegetables that are abundant in quercetin can contribute greatly to the reduction of disease.
In certain studies quercetin has demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the manufacture and release of histamine and other allergic mediators. It also has potent antioxidant activity as measured by the Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity or ORAC scale. This little berry from the rain forest of Brazil is exceptionally high in quercetin. Other sources of this vital nutrient include red onions, tea, apples and red wine.
But, if you’re a juice producer looking for a new venture, many juice and smoothie producers have already jumped the gun on capitalizing on the healthful fruit. While the trend is still fairly recent, grocery store shelves are already well stocked with the likes of organic acai juices, yogurt drinks, smoothies, and even teas.
In addition to the anit-oxident and weight loss benefits of acai, this berry can also help cleanse and detox the colon. The scrubbing power of the acai berry gives you a colon cleanse and detoxifies your body.
And the bottles of these products make many a pretty promise. I’m actually drinking an Organic Acai Antioxidant Super food Smoothie right now that claims its sufficient for a meal replacement. Is that true? Well, it sure seems to satisfy my nutritional needs as the Nutrition Facts label shows sufficient amounts of protein, carbohydrates, fat, potassium and even omega-3 fatty acids! And actually its the only thing I’ve eaten today so far and I don’t think I’m hungry! Maybe this stuff really does work (Don’t try this at home though folks, acai shouldn’t be the only thing you eat all day.)
