There are many ways to treat constipation. Some involve taking over the counter laxatives, while other require a more advanced form of treatment such as colon hydrotherapy which is a procedure done by a trained medical profession. The most common for of medical treatments are enemas and purgatives.
In more recent times, people are resorting to colon cleansing programs to aid in the process. While there are plenty of benefits to flushing your colon, you should always keep safety first. The process of cleaning your colon is considered safe and the more informed you are, the more confidence you will have in the process.
There are plenty of intestinal cleansers on the market. Some are a mixture of chemicals while others are all-natural or organic. You can never go wrong choosing organic over products that contain chemicals. After all, you are trying to cleanse your body from toxic residue.
Even though more primitive societies have been using the power of nature to keep their intestines clean, herbal cleaners are not recognized by the Food and Drug Administration and therefore are not mandated. For this reason, you have to do your research before you decide on the use of a particular product. The FDA does not supervise the use of herbal products.
The product you select should be recognized and certified by a GMP certified company. This is the best to insure you are getting a high grade quality product. The ingredients should be certified as organic.
It is important to keep your body hydrated when you are going through a cleansing and detox program. You can dehydrate very quickly because the body releases a lot of fluids during the process. Drinking plenty of water and fruit drinks such orange or grape juice will help immensely.
It is also important to keep the body replenished with a good balance of sodium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorous, as these help to keep vital organs operating efficiently. Most of these mineral can be found in a good health drink. This is important because you will lose a percentage of these minerals when you go through a colon cleansing process. This is the most important safety tip that I can give you.
Pregnant women and those who are nursing should stay away from intestinal colon cleansing. There are too many things that can potentially go wrong. The last thing you want is to loose a lot of essential body fluids when you are pregnant or to deplete yourself of essential nutrients while you are nursing.
Many have asked if it is safe for children to take colon cleansing products. The answer is no. I would not recommended to young kids under any circumstances. Children having constant problems with constipation should see a doctor. Herbs may be too strong for a child’s sensitive digestive track.
People suffering with allergies to exercise caution too. Many herbal products may contain allergens that you are sensitive to. The last thing you want is to have a severe reaction, especially since some allergies can be severely fatal. Read the ingredients of the package before taking any herbs you are unsure of. Herbal products are only safe to take when you practice diligence and prudence about your safety.

Today there seems to be so much advice given with regard to diet. Eat this, don’t eat that, don’t even think about smelling that! Many foods seem to lead to one result-constipation. If you have experienced this problem know all too well the discomfort and embarrassment this can cause. The number one question may be, which foods would bring relief.
Fortunately there are many foods that can bring relief to constipation sufferers. Exploring these can prove very helpful. Figs and dates are among the fiber filled foods that are effective in the relief of constipation. Being very high in minerals and fiber, these fruits assist the digestive system and have been said to relieve constipation in a matter of hours.
Grapes can also be used by those seeking relief. One or two pounds per day can get your colon flowing freely. They are a healthful way of relieving constipation because they are abundant in vitamins, minerals and fiber. In addition, the antioxidant resveratrol can be found in the skin of the grapes making it a very good choice.
Papaya is another excellent choice in this area. It contains lots of fiber and when ripe is very easily digestible. The protein-digesting enzymes papain and chymopapain are incredibly helpful in creating and maintaining a free flowing system. It is also high in anti-oxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta carotene which produce excellent results in reducing inflammation and improving overall health. Papaya can be used as part of a healthy breakfast, a quick snack or can be added to delicious smoothies.
The persimmon is another fruit that is high in Fiber (3.6 g per 100g) and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. It is also high in vitamins A, C and folate. These nutrients in persimmons make them very different from substances which only have a laxative effect. Instead of just relieving constipation, the persimmon gives relief and also replenishes the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function optimally. Adding this fruit will definitely enrich your diet.
Raspberries make it to this list because of their richness in vitamins A and C. The minerals magnesium, iron and calcium also fortify this dark fruit. This fragile and tasty little fruit can not only make constipation disappear quickly but can also replenish your vitamin reserve.
Last on the list are prunes. If there ever was a fruit superpower, this would be it. These babies are incredible for constipation relief. I think just about everyone has heard of them for that same reason. Each prune is forty percent insoluble fiber which makes life very easy on the lower intestine in waste elimination. Prunes outrank any existing vegetable or fruit in antioxidant content, not to mention the eighteen body fortifying vitamins and minerals. Among them are folic acid, vitamin E, vitamin B6, vitamin A, zinc, selenium, thiamine, potassium, sodium, riboflavin, phosphorous, pantothenic acid, niacin, manganese, magnesium, iron, copper and calcium. Ounce for ounce no other food can outdo the prune. So introduce yourself to the prune and enjoy a free flowing colon.
