Colon Problems: What To Do To Avoid Them
The colon, which is one of the major organs in the human body, should always be functioning properly. Why? It is the site wherein the last processes of digestion are being done and, if it does not function properly, the results may become fatal since toxins will spread all throughout the body.
Over the years, the existence of junk foods and other harmful things that we ingest daily have been increasing. Incidences of obesity are getting higher. Along with these, people having colon problems have also been increasing.
Among the most common colon problems are the following:
- Bloating
- IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Bloating
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Anal Fissure
- Colon Polyps
- Colon Tumors
- Colitis
- Colon Cancer
- Crohn’s Disease
There are other types of colon health problems and these are really unpleasant if ever you encounter even one of them. Also, a colon problem can be a symptom rather than a disease to more serious problems with the colon.
To be able to check if you are suffering from one, check yourself if you have the following signs of colon problems:
- Recurring abdominal pain
- Cramping
- Sudden and unintended weight loss
- Prolonged diarrhea
- Prolonged constipation
- Rectal bleeding
- Frequent and unexplained vomiting
- Hair loss
Colon diseases are common problems in middle-aged people, although based on statistics, more men than women are afflicted, but just by a small margin. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality last October 2008, men have a lifetime risk of 5.7% while women have a lifetime risk of 5.1%. In a press release done last September 23, 2008 by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, there are approximately 150,000 people in the United States alone that are diagnosed with colon cancer and they have a projection of 50,000 among these people who will die from the disease.
Colon problems in women are also the same problems with colon in men. The common colon problems mentioned above can be experienced by both sexes if they are not careful. To be able to prevent colon problems from occurring and from recurring, you should be able to do the following:
- Eat more fruits and vegetables than you usually do.
- Avoid sugar.
- Avoid sodas.
- Avoid excessive alcohol intake.
- Avoid processed foods.
- Learn how different types of food groups affect you.
You should start doing these preventive measures now if you want to avoid colon problems. They are not that hard to do so start doing them today.
